Family Promise - Dine Out at Chili's

Tuesday, May 8 -- Chili's Grill at 5851 Bee Ridge Rd.

For the first time, the host venue will donate a portion of its proceeds from both lunch and dinner (and, in this case, anything in between), as well as from take-out orders.

For all purchases between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., the Chili's Grill on Bee Ridge will donate 10 percent to Family Promise of Sarasota. But there's one catch: You MUST print out the official flyer for the event and take it with you to the restaurant. Please make lots of copies and distribute them at your congregation, workplace, social gathering spots, etc. and make sure folks know they need to take the flyer with them on May 8.

Here is the link to the flyer:

Chili's Grill doesn't usually take reservations, but manager Tony Drivas says he'd appreciate a call ahead of time to 941-379-2235 if you're planning a group of six or more. If he's not there, just leave your name, the number in your party, the date of May 8 and your expected arrival time.

In the unlikely event that you're not familiar with the Chili's chain, check out the menu atwww.chilis.com/en/pages/menu.aspx. There are ample offerings for just about every American palate, including lots of "Lighter Choices" options. You can even place take-out orders on line at this web site.

About Family Promise

One of our familiesFamily Promise of Sarasota Inc. is affiliated with the national Family Promise program – more than 130,000 volunteers in 41 states committed to “fighting national poverty, one community at a time.” The Sarasota chapter was incorporated as a Florida 501(c)(3) agency in 2006 and began providing direct services to client families in 2007. Family Promise has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating offered by this independent evaluator of more than 5,500 of America’s largest charities.

Our volunteer-driven program provides a unique transitional support system designed to assist homeless families with children in stabilizing their lives so that they can once again obtain and retain permanent housing. Each week a Host Congregation provides accommodations, meals and transportation as needed for our Guest Families. Services are provided on a non-sectarian basis. Host Congregation volunteers provide dinner each evening and an overnight presence where the families are staying. Volunteers also drive our mini-bus, shop for groceries and supplies, get laundry and organizing done, and help out in the Family Promise office and day center, the base of operations for parents while they look for jobs and arrange for support services. Volunteers also serve on our Board of Directors and its committees. Overall, our volunteers donate an average of 200 hours a week of their time and talents – the equivalent of five full-time employees!

A New Chance At Life

It comes from my heart when I say that Family Promise (FP) literally gave me and my grand baby a new chance at life, not to mention all the support and new lifetime friendships I've managed to accumulate with FP. I received all kinds of support, great advice and, even help in locating a new job to get me on the right path, leading back to my becoming self-sufficient again.

Debbie, Former Guest

Why I Love My Job . . .

When I initially joined the staff of Family Promise of Sarasota, the parts of its program that stood out to me were the “community effort,” the interfaith concept and the huge number of volunteers involved. Having worked in social services for 20 years in this area, I had never seen such a degree of volunteerism make a program work so efficiently and effectively.
